___What happened to the parties we used to arrange? What happened to the parties we used to attend and enjoy so much? After being astonished by the ignorance and incompetence shown by the organizers of The Party 1997, I found it correct to cast some light on the very sad matter at hand. The death of the "real" parties, the parties arranged for the scene and not for the sake of commercialism and business is a fact - Sad but true...
___When the staff of the biggest and most popular scene arrangement, namely The Party, seems to have no knowledge of today's scene groups or individuals, I find reason to scream out. I mean, by presenting the official results with obvious mistakes like "Da of Jormas" (My favorite. -Ed.) and "Jazz / Haujobb of Haujobb" I can not help myself from being negative. What has the guy compiling this list been doing the last couple of years? Been stuck at some desert island? He has certainly not been involved in the scene, that's for sure. For all I know, some stupid automatic system has been developed to relieve the "work" it must be to compile a decent list, resulting in this kind of unbelievable mistakes...
___One thing is to present the results with obvious mistakes. Another thing is to use an incredible 1 (ONE) month to develop a list that normally should have been out just a few days after the actual arrangement. I mean, wouldn't you expect to be able to find the results from a party at least a "little" bit sooner?
___I think it is no lie to claim that The Party 1997 would have been one huge flop if it wasn't for the reputation this arrangement have from earlier successful arrangements, thus drawing the cream of the scene to the event.
___I do not intend to make this an article about The Party in particular, rather a reminder of what we used to have. When I keep referring to The Party 1997, it's rather a natural consequence of the fact that this is the most recent party being held than something else... I could just as well been racking down on The Gathering with it's utter commercialized outer appearance and it's non-existing sceneish atmosphere...
___What I tend to accomplish with this article? I want you all to think about how things have become. Do you really believe the state of our beloved baby, the Amiga, will rise at a higher level when we keep on supporting arrangements that is no longer arranged for the scene, but for the sake of earning money? When all we have left is the atmosphere and the love for our machine, we can't just sit passive and watch the PC commercialism inflicting and invading our territory.
___You might say that that is the only thing we have - The parties has become this was and there's nothing we can do about it, but hey, who are we to give up? We do not want to realize that the Amiga is by far outranged by the PC and other computer systems with backup of software, why should we accept that the parties has become more and more commercialized.
___You might think I am living in a world of dreams. That might be so, but what can I do? I have been a part of our community for so long. I can still remember the parties with "soul", the parties with a fudge of joy and happiness spawning around them - I want those days back.
___We don't have to tolerate everything. There are still time to make changes. We still have the opportunity to make the parties right again. We can still influence the party-organizers to bring back the atmosphere that is so long gone... Don't sit there whining - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
